Brother MFC-9325CW Digital Color LED All-in-One Printer
Brother MFC-9325CW Digital Color LED All-in-One Printer Review
The Brother MFC-9325CW is ideal for home offices or small offices with fast and high-quality printing and copying. It comes with versatile paper handling and automatic document feeder. It is an entry level color LED printer. Brother use LEDs instead of lasers because they cost less and are smaller and lighter. LED-based printers are otherwise similar to laser printers.
Features & Benefit
Speed and Quality
In terms of printing speed, the MFC-9325cw performs as advertised with print speeds as fast as 19 ppm in both black and color. The business-document print quality is quite good. Text quality, at all fonts, styles, and sizes, is crisp and well-delineated. Graphic printing is clean with solid spot-on fills, and embedded images looked good. However, laser printers don’t print photos nearly as well as most inkjets do, and, in that regard, this model is no exception. The HP model’s color accuracy and image clarity is usually a little better than the Brother model’s output in terms of overall detail and color depth.
It’s relatively fast when it comes to copying. The copier works without a PC and has a maximum copy speed of 19 cpm black and color. You can make multiple copies at up to 99 sheets at once.
This printer is a good scanner but the scan times running a little below average. The scan resolution is up to 1200 x 2400 dpi (Optical) with a good range of destinations to E-mail, Image, OCR, File, FTP, USB, Network Folder (CIFS). The Brother model gives you a very accurate scan, making the results worth the wait.
The faxing capabilities of this machine are impressive running on a 33.6 kbps modem and boasting a 600-page storage facility. However, the MFC-9325cw does not offer automatic duplexing.
Ease of use
The control panel comprises over 30 buttons but it’s easy to figure out and use. The two-line monochrome LED displays filenames when you’re printing from USB memory sticks, as well as PictBridge-compliant digital cameras and other devices. The LED also comes in handy when you’re scanning to USB memory devices and the PCs on your network.
Paper handling
The MFC-9325CW comes with a 250-sheet paper tray and single-sheet manual feed slot. It has a 35-page automatic document feeder.
Connectivity
Setting up the MFC-9325CW and installing the drivers and software is easy. It supports wireless connectivity up to 802.11b/g and Ethernet. This printer also offers a USB port for PictBridge devices and flash drives. Brother’s free iPrint&Scan app allows you to print from iOS- and Android-based smartphones and tablets, as well as Windows 7 Phone handhelds.
Ink
It uses cyan, magenta, yellow, and black toner cartridges. The one negative review is that it consumes too much ink, meaning that print cost can be quite high.
Pros
- Fast print speed
- Auto document feeder
- Print, scan, and fax over network
- Ethernet, Wi-Fi, PictBridge connectivity
Cons
- Sub-par photos
- No automatic two-sided printing
Summary
Overall, the Brother MFC-9325CW is a strong-performing laser-class multifunction printer. Compared with competing laser and LED multifunction printers in its price range, the MFC-9325CW is a capable business machine with respectable print and copy speeds. It has many convenience features most small businesses want. However, a high operational cost makes it best for businesses that need laser-quality output at modest volume levels.

The Positives: 1- The machine appears solid and well-built. The Negatives: 1- Fairly frequently, the machine indictates that there is a paper jam when one tries to use the manual feed. Upon checking the machine, one finds no paper jam.

My printer arrived today via UPS (free shipping, courtesy of Amazon). I lucked out and bought the unit when it was on sale at $329! Actully, Brother, HP and other manufacturers should give these machines away for free because the cost of replacing the toners and drums will far exceed by several multiples the purchase price of the machine over the life of the machine. It was very easy to set up the machine and “pair” it to my wireless network — you do need a USB cable to “pair” the machine to your computer and the network; the pairing took less than a minute. I’ve always had HP machines; oh, how I miss my HP color AIO that died after seven (7) years of use. The specs of this Brother is better than my departed HP but the color on the HP seemed better (but the unit cost nearly $800 back then). I’ll have to play with the color setting and use color laser paper going forward. Printing from my iPhone 4 was a breeze and the photos I printed came out…Read more

We all know how the usual printer scam works. Printer companies offer a low price for their hardware to lock you into buying their highly profitable ink and toner cartridges. Then, their printers complain about low ink and toner levels long before the cartridge is really empty to try to encourage even greater use of expensive consumables. Thus, a savvy user waits until printer quality noticeably degrades. Usually, pulling out the cartridge and shaking it a bit improves performance for a little while, extending the cartridge lifetime. Finally, the cartridge is well and truly empty and it’s time for a replacement. Brother has developed an innovative and extortionate wrinkle. Not content to let the user decide when the cartridge actually needs replacement, my Brother MFC-9325CW printer locks up and refuses to print until the allegedly empty cartridge is replaced. To add insult to injury, the printer even refuses to print black and white until the user replaces a reportedly…Read more |

Calculating Cost Per Page:
Cost per page is a calculation of how much it costs to print one single page. Calculating the cost of printing per page before buying a printer, you can ensure whether or not you are able to save money in the long run.
Cost per page = Price of ink cartridge / Page yield
For example, if the price of an ink cartridge is $15 and its yield is 440 pages, then its cost per page will be $15/440=$0.034 (3.4 cents per page).
